# Dispatch Assignment — Server Map Explorer

## Task Overview
Investigate existing server-side procedural map engine, biomes, zone engine, data structures, and binary serialization in FreeExile.
Authoritative user request: `c:\Projects\FreeExile\.agents\teamwork\ORIGINAL_REQUEST.md` (section `## 2026-10-01T19:19:13Z`).

## Scope & Target Files
- `server/world/procedural_map_engine.py` (Current dungeon generator, BSP rooms, corridors, boss room, A* pathfinding, obstacles)
- `server/world/map_data_types.py` (`TileType`, `TileCell`, `MapRoom`, `ObstacleInstance`, `FogState`)
- `server/world/map_biome_catalog.py` (Biome definitions)
- `server/world/zone_engine.py` (Zone lifecycle, monster spawn validation, player spawn)
- `server/world/zone_catalog.py` (Canonical zones, bounds, waypoints)
- Network protocol & serialization for sending tile grid to client (`Uint8Array` compact binary format)

## Deliverables
Produce a comprehensive report at:
`c:\Projects\FreeExile\.agents\teamwork\explorer_survey_server\report.md`
and write `handoff.md` with findings, architecture recommendations, and exact file paths/line numbers.

## 2026-10-01T19:21:45Z
Investigate the server-side procedural map system:
1. Review server/world/procedural_map_engine.py, server/world/map_data_types.py, server/world/map_biome_catalog.py, server/world/zone_engine.py, server/world/zone_catalog.py.
2. Analyze how ProceduralMapEngine currently generates dungeons (BSP rooms, corridors, boss room, A* pathfinding, anti-bot obstacles).
3. Determine how to extend it for open-world wilderness zones (dimensions 60x45 up to 120x90 tiles), with main paths, 2-3 encounter zones, 1-2 dead ends with loot/events, 1 boss gate tile, 1-3 POI tiles, and 8-tile safe radius at spawn.
4. Define the compact binary serialization format (Uint8Array, 1 byte/tile) to stream tile grid from server to client, including tile type encoding and metadata.
5. Identify existing tests in tests/unit/ relating to zones, maps, and movement authority.
